Breakfast is where Moroccan food is most naturally plant-based — and where visitors most often get stuck with a plate of bread and jam. This guide to vegan breakfast in Marrakech explains the morning dishes worth knowing, what a complete plant-based Moroccan breakfast looks like, and how to have one delivered to your riad terrace, including on the same day.

Moroccan breakfast dishes that are (or can be) vegan
Msemen
The square, layered flatbread you see stacked in every bakery. It is traditionally brushed with butter and eaten with honey; ours is folded with olive oil, and we also make a version filled with onion and spices.

Baghrir
The “thousand-hole” semolina pancake. The fermented batter is usually plant-based; the butter-and-honey topping is not. Try it with amlou or jam instead.
Amlou
Roasted almonds ground with argan oil and a sweetener — the Moroccan answer to nut butter. Many shop versions contain honey; ours does not.
Bread, olives and olive oil
Round khobz, a dish of olive oil for dipping, and black or chilli olives are the backbone of any Moroccan breakfast table.
Cooked salads and hummus
Taktouka (peppers and tomato) and zaalouk (aubergine) appear at breakfast as often as lunch. We add hummus with argan oil and a pink beetroot hummus.
Bissara
On cold mornings, locals queue for a bowl of split-pea or broad-bean soup with olive oil and cumin — cheap, filling and vegan when no butter is added.
Fresh orange juice and mint tea
Moroccan oranges are some of the sweetest you will taste, and mint tea follows every meal.

What a complete vegan breakfast looks like
A balanced Moroccan vegan breakfast combines something warm and bready (msemen or baghrir), something savoury (taktouka, hummus, olives), something sweet (amlou, jam, fruit salad with nuts), and something to drink (orange juice and tea). It is a generous, slow meal meant for sharing on a terrace, not a grab-and-go snack. For a deeper look at the ingredients, read our guide to what vegans can eat in Marrakech.
Vegan breakfast at your riad
Most riad breakfasts are built around butter, eggs, cheese, honey and pastries. Hosts are generally happy to leave those off, but that often leaves only bread and jam. A delivered breakfast solves this: tell your riad reception to expect us, and we bring a complete plant-based breakfast to the door, finishing on foot in the Medina’s narrow lanes.
Same-day orders are welcome. Pick today’s date in the ordering form, choose any slot at least one hour away between 08:30 and 16:00, then confirm on WhatsApp. For 08:30 and 09:00 slots, ordering the evening before is the easiest way to secure your time.

Order for today or later in the week. Delivered to your riad, hotel or apartment.
Breakfast before an excursion
Trips to the Atlas Mountains, Agafay or Essaouira usually leave early, and roadside cafés rarely have much for vegans beyond bread. Book the 08:30 slot and ask us to pack for travel: msemen, bread, amlou, olives, nuts and fruit hold up well for a few hours.
Learn to make it yourself
If you fall for msemen and amlou, join our vegan Moroccan cooking class with a local family: you cook and eat traditional plant-based dishes together, and leave able to make them at home.
