Lunch in Marrakech can be heavy. After a morning in the souks, most travellers want something fresh rather than a full tagine and a nap. A vegan lunch in Marrakech is easy to build from Moroccan cooking itself: the cuisine is full of vegetable dishes, pulses, salads and bread that were plant-based long before anyone used the word vegan. This guide covers what to order, where to eat a vegan or vegetarian lunch in Marrakesh, and how to get a plant-based lunch delivered to your riad.

Vegan lunch delivered to your door
Slots every 30 minutes until 16:00, same-day orders welcome. 45 MAD delivery in the Medina and Gueliz.
Moroccan dishes that make a perfect vegan lunch
Cooked salads
- Zaalouk: smoky aubergine and tomato cooked down with garlic, cumin and olive oil.
- Taktouka: grilled green pepper and tomato, sweet and slightly charred.
- Carrot salad: gently cooked carrots with lemon, garlic, cumin and olives.
- Beetroot and orange salad: a bright, refreshing plate for hot afternoons.
Warm but light mains
- Vegetable tagine: courgette, carrot, potato and olives, slow-cooked with Moroccan spices. Ask for it without smen.
- Lentils (adas) and white beans (loubia): cumin, tomato and olive oil; filling without being heavy.
- Bissara: split-pea or broad-bean soup with olive oil and bread, a Moroccan classic for a quick midday meal.
- Vegetable couscous: traditionally a Friday lunch. Ask whether the semolina was steamed over meat broth. Ours is 100% vegan and we deliver it for two people (270 MAD).
To finish
Seasonal fruit (melon, pomegranate, figs, oranges) plus mint tea or a fresh juice. Simple, and exactly what the climate asks for. For the full list of plant-based Moroccan dishes, see what vegans can eat in Marrakech.

What to watch out for when ordering vegan in Marrakech
Traditional kitchens are welcoming, but a few ingredients catch out plant-based travellers:
- Smen and butter: fermented butter, often stirred into couscous and tagines.
- Meat or chicken stock: used for steaming couscous and in harira, even when the dish looks vegetarian.
- Honey: common on pancakes, pastries and in some salad dressings.
- Dairy: yoghurt sauces, cheese on salads and milk in smoothies.
A useful phrase: “bla lham, bla zebda, bla ‘assel” (without meat, without butter, without honey). Everything we cook is fully plant-based, so you never have to negotiate.
